Hi there! I'm Joanna Krueger and my husband Michael and I are a wedding photography team in Houston, TX. We hope you enjoy viewing our latest work and getting a peek into our lives!
Ok, who has ever heard of Isla Mujeres?? In all honesty, I never had until earlier this year. Whenever we plan trips, we troll Tripadvisor like crazy. It has proven itself worthy over the last few years. When we decided to go somewhere this summer, we turned to Tripadvisor for locations and it turns out, Isla Mujeres was rated the #14 Island in the world and it’s beach, Playa Norte was rated at #10 in the world. So obviously we started researching and booked our flights within a couple of weeks!
Isla Mujeres is absolutely gorgeous. I knew there was a reason that teal is my favorite color! The water around this island is unbelievable. Pictures just can’t do it justice! We flew into Cancun and stayed there for a couple of nights before taking the ferry over to the island. (Oh yeah..Isla Mujeres is just a ferry ride away from Cancun.)
Day 1 & 2 : Tulum
I’ve been to Tulum several years ago but since this was Michael’s first time to Mexico, I thought it would be worth a second visit. Tulum is home to (in my opinion) the most beautiful Mayan ruins in Mexico. The beach here is fantastic!! The water really is that color.
lol! He’s going to kill me for posting this!
Day 2: Ferry Ride + Isla Mujeres
I still can’t get over this water!! Seriously. This color is my fave! The water was so clear it seems like you could fill a glass and drink it. I’m SO thankful Michael let us ride the car ferry to the island. I’m prone to motion sickness and the faster passenger ferry would have done me in. We were both glad we took this route. The ride was so smooth and much slower so you could just take it all in. Not to mention it was quite a bit cheaper!
As you can see, we pretty much had the ferry to ourselves!!
Yes…that’s my amazing husband rolling my suitcase for me 🙂 #swoon
Aaahhhhh…..finally 🙂
Day 3: Viva Mexico
We went shopping around the island a little and ventured over to the east side of the island. It’s so interesting how different the island looks from one side to the other. The north side has the fantastic shallow water beach, the south side has rocky turquoise water reef, the east side is rocky and the west side is beach.
This is the east side of the island.
What a stud!!
Definitely the favorite from the trip!
Apparently the island has a paddle board delivery service. This guy brought food to the people on this boat!
Day 4: Time to explore!
One of the most popular things to do on the island is to rent a golf cart and explore. On Saturday we did just that and I’m glad we did! It seemed like everyone in the world was at the beach!! So we got in our golf cart and headed to the south point of the island.
We totally bought this conch for $3!
Looooove this!!
Whoever thought of putting in this winding path is a genius.
And the good thing with having a golf cart is that you can drive around looking for the best sunset photo locations! Photo cred goes to Michael on this one.
Day 5: Snorkel anyone??
One of the things Michael really wanted to do on this trip was to snorkel. We looked around at local tours you can go on but they were WAY too expensive for what you actually get. We found out some good local snorkel places from our hotel concierge, bought our own snorkel gear at the local supermarket, went out and did our own thing. We’re so glad we did that!
The largest snorkel size only came in purple…
Day 6: An adventurous mix
We had so much fun with the golf cart last time that we rented one again!! The island may be only 5 miles long with one main road but there’s a lot to see. And it’s a load of fun!! We started off with a morning beach picture and found a fantastic location on the south west side of the island for some more snorkeling.
This area was the best for snorkeling!
And then Michael…my amazing, patient, super thoughtful husband stopped whenever I asked and let me take pictures of these beautiful doors. I just loved these doors!
When I took this one, the owner of the home was sitting outside. She was quite confused as to why I wanted to take a picture of her door. When I told her because it was beautiful, she smiled from ear to ear and told me she had lived there since she was a very little girl. That makes me love this one even more! Even beside the fact that it’s my favorite color!
And then we found this beautiful location just in time for the sunset!
