School the Creative | September Class

You may have seen me posting lately about being a guest speaker for “School the Creative”! This is a class put together and created by Kate Elizabeth, an amazing wedding photographer here in Houston! She wanted to create a class where photographers of all stages could come and get new tools and tricks for their back pocket. Whether you’re wanting to break into the industry or you’re a seasoned pro who just needs a creative recharge. After the first class in August, Kate reached out to me and asked me to be a guest speaker at the September class!

Each class is centered around a specific topic and begins with a teaching and Q&A session, then we spend the rest of our time shooting! Kate designed this class where there would be different stations for the students to photograph. This particular class had an invitation flat lay station, a floral center piece, cocktails, a lifestyle blogger and a bride! Our topic? Movement. As a photographer, it’s SO easy to get stuck in a rut and do the same things over and over again with posing so this class was perfect! The students that attended (and myself!!) walked away with new ideas and ways to incorporate movement into their posing!

Most of you know that I taught elementary music for five years before going full time in photography so teaching at this class was right up my alley! I absolutely loved passing on my tips and tricks to these girls. But get this- one of our students drove THREE HOURS to come hear me guest speak! That just amazes me! She follows me on Instagram and once she heard and saw me posting about being a guest speaker, she messaged me and told me she was sold. That’s one thing I love about social media- getting to connect with and meet people who share the same passions as you. After all, that’s where I met Kate!!

And speaking of Kate, she and I had so much fun teaching together that I’m coming back in October for the next class! This time, I’ll be sharing all my tips and tricks for working with and posing a couple. Not only is she an amazing photographer, but she put together such an amazing day full of learning and creativity for the students that attended!
