A River Oaks Houston Wedding

There’s nothing I love more than watching two people who are madly in love, spend their wedding day soaking up every minute and exploding with joy. That’s exactly what Katherine and Christian did. These two never stopped smiling and it was just the sweetest thing!

Katherine and Christian’s wedding day had so many special elements! For starters, Katherine designed their invitations, their signage and her wedding dress!! My jaw dropped to the floor when Katherine told me she had designed her dress. Katherine, along with the designers at Modern Trousseau, designed a custom, one of a kind dress made specially for her. That is just amazing to me!

Katherine and Christian were married at her dad’s house in River Oaks. They completely transformed the house into the most beautiful wedding venue for all their friends and family. We first came here for their engagement session back in February and I couldn’t believe how different it looked on their wedding day! They had removed all the furniture and placed reception tables in the library, two front rooms and porch with the most delicious cake placed perfectly under the chandelier in the curve of the grand staircase. And not only that, but they completely transformed their driveway and garage into an incredible reception space complete with an iconic black and white checkered dance floor under the stars. It was truly remarkable what they had done!

As Christian and his family are from Germany, they included a lot of German touches throughout their day. After they were pronounced husband and wife, they took part in an old German tradition by cutting a log with a saw! This represents how the couple must work together to overcome obstacles while demonstrating their teamwork, their willingness and ability to master the difficulties that inevitably arise in a marriage. In nine years of photographing weddings, this was a first for me and I absolutely loved it! Watching these two saw through a log in a wedding dress and tuxedo is something I’ll never forget…and I know they never will either!

Before dinner, Katherine, Christian and their parents headed into the wine room for a family toast. Their parents shared sweet thoughts and blessings and rejoiced in their new marriage together away from all the guests in private setting. It was such a special moment for all of them!
