McGovern Centennial Gardens Wedding Portraits

It’s amazing what technology can do these days…like connecting you to people who live in other parts of the world! Ann and Jan live in London and had a small, “zoom” wedding there on June 26th! They found me on Instagram and reached out about taking some post-wedding portraits while they were in the states visiting Ann’s family. How amazing is that?!

Ann and Jan are doing what they call a “Wedding World Tour.” Jan is actually from the Czech Republic so after they got married in London, they went to visit his family there and take family portraits with them, then they flew to Houston to visit Ann’s family! Since Ann’s parents weren’t able to attend their London wedding in person, they came along to take some family portraits. 

And speaking of world tour, Ann’s dad is actually from Italy! Ann’s mom joked about how we had the United Nations here with him being from Italy, Jan from Czech and herself from the United States. Michael and I loved getting to talk with everyone and hear their stories. Frank, Ann’s dad, moved here from Italy in the 1960’s and started his own pizza restaurant where he worked for 12 years! He told us how he is making his wife, Janet, a pizza for her birthday. I have a feeling it’s going to be delicious! 

We met up with everyone at McGovern Centennial Gardens for their wedding portraits. It’s one of my favorite places to shoot in Houston…especially this first spot that I call “the desert!” It just photographs so beautifully. We had amazing light during their session. I’ve gotten to where I really love shooting in what photographers call “harsh light.” It’s basically where you’re photographing in the bright sun without shade. It creates such a lovely glow of light around your clients and really gives you that “dreamy” look! We had a perfectly cloudless day during their session and I am just loving how their photos turned out!
